JORDAN HENRY || ARCHITECTURE & ART

FALL 2021 STUDIO PHASE 1

PROJECT STATEMENT

Beginning this project, I browsed the McMaster library and strategically selected two objects that were different in nature but shared aspects that were similar upon further examination. From there, I took each part and proceeded to execute different commands and manipulations to explore the unique forms. With further understanding, I began to use the knowledge I gathered and attempted to apply it by combining the forms.

The first step I took was developing a series of procedures that united the two pieces while highlighting their differences. Through many iterations, I developed new steps and evolved the pieces further. After each completed composition, I went back to the beginning and started again, all while updating one of the procedures along the way to alter the outcome. Once I had a set roadmap that I was pleased with, I worked on producing the final product.

Through the final procedural steps, the final extrusions – that tie back to the section footprint of the original objects – adopt a deeper shade of polished red for every step they push out. The finished result accumulates into a gathering of jagged shards that merge together and create a dazzling crystal-like structure.
