The school employs a number of sustainable strategies, such as green roofs and optimized daylight gain to provide a comfortable learning environment while it also acts as a tool for the students to learn from on how to lead a more sustainable life. Situated in the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY, the structure also is elevated off the ground to protect it from the flood prone area.
